Effortlessly listenable, one of the defining statements on modal jazz, and a perennial classic, this masterpiece from Miles Davis still sounds timeless despite the fast approaching 60th anniversary of it’s release.

With only minimal rehearsals and a largely improvisational approach to composition, his sextet (including future jazz legends John Coltrane, Bill Evans and Cannonball Adderley) managed to capture the very essence of cool in just two days of recording sessions and hardly any takes.
