Nick Drake: Five Leaves Left (1969)

Recorded when he was just 20 years old, ‘Five Leaves Left’ is the first of Drake’s trilogy of albums. And despite containing the classic track ‘River Man’ it was largely unappreciated at the time of its release.

Luckily his delicate voice and elegant guitar playing have stood the test of time, and nowadays Nick Drake is claimed as an influence on a whole host of musicians, from The Cure through to Goldfrapp.

Five Leaves Left was produced by Joe Boyd and features many other musicians including RIchard Thompson on electric guitar and Danny Thompson (Pentangle) on bass (as an aside, for all you Vinyl Session geeks out there, Danny Thompson also plays on one of our previous sessions – Talk Talk’s Spirit of Eden)

A copy of Five Leaves Left was raffled by the host Andy B and won by a very happy Karen!
