Echo and the Bunnymen: Heaven Up Here (1981)

This session we listened to the second album by Echo & The Bunnymen – a critical and commercial success and, although later albums charted higher, ‘Heaven Up Here’ remains one of their best. In 1982 critics struggled to pin it down, the mix of ‘majestic, uplifting music’ (Melody Maker) and ‘melancholy, resplendent with the glamour of doom’ (NME) is still something that can’t be described, only experienced. Overrated? Or an underground classic? What did you think?
